Boozman: Hunt an example of American Dream

U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today issued the following statement on the passing of an American business icon, J.B. Hunt, Sr.:

"Today, Arkansas and America lost a giant of business, and I lost a dear friend.

"J.B. Hunt built a billion-dollar trucking business from humble beginnings and, in the span of a lifetime, went from a sharecropper's son to the employer of over 16,000 people and a major force in shaping the economy of the 3rd District.

"Northwest Arkansas is what it is today thanks to people like J.B. Hunt. It is no coincidence the growth of his trucking company came at the same time his friend and fellow businessman Sam Walton was growing his.

"In addition to being a leader in business, J.B. was a humanitarian of the first order. While a benefactor of numerous organizations, he also practiced charity and kindness face-to-face - handing out hundred-dollar bills to people he thought needed the money. His reason: ‘I was hungry once.' Indeed, we can all learn a lesson from J.B. about never forgetting where you came from and living the golden rule.

"The thoughts and prayers of my family are today with J.B.'s wife Johnelle, the Hunt family, and the employees of the J.B. Hunt company who each day live the American dream J.B. began in 1969."
