Statement of the Hon. Rosa L. DeLauro Iraq Study Group Report
Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn.-3) today issued the following statement on the release of the Iraq Study Group report.
"For too long the Bush administration has refused to accept the reality of the war in Iraq , instead claiming that we should simply stay the course.' Yet with no end in sight to a war we have been fighting longer than we fought in World War II, the American people know that stay the course is not an option. We need a new strategy with a plan for Iraqis to take control of their own security and a plan for responsibly redeploying our troops.
"The Iraq Study Group's report outlines the grave conditions in Iraq and acknowledges that there are no easy solutions. The report contains many sensible recommendations - many of which have already been proposed on Capitol Hill, yet have fallen on deaf ears in the Bush administration. I hope that the release of this report will force the Bush Administration to quickly change the direction in Iraq because these recommendations are only as good as the action the White House is willing to take."
