Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart Votes to Extend Family-Friendly Tax Relief, Prevent Medicare Cut

Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) today voted to extend several tax relief provisions and to prevent a scheduled five percent cut in Medicare physician payments in 2007.

On the tax extenders: "Tax relief clearly has helped fuel our economic engine. Floridians will be able to continue deducting college tuition and state sales tax from their federal tax returns. These common sense tax breaks will help ease the financial burden on hard-working, middle- and lower-income families."

On the stopping the scheduled cut in Medicare physician payments: "I don't want to limit seniors' access to health care or prevent doctors from helping patients. Cost of health care is an issue I hope to effectively address."

On the Senate OCS provision: "I wish we could have had the deal from 2005, but at least this bill is better than doing nothing. Obviously, I will continue to work with my colleagues and our Senators to fashion better and more permanent protections for Florida's shores."
