Moore attends groundbreaking for Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial

Congressman Dennis Moore (Third District-KS) joined President Bush, President Clinton, his colleagues in Congress, and the King family in celebrating the beginning of construction on the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., memorial in Washington, D.C.

"No permanent structure could ever fully communicate the deep impact that Rev. King had on our society or embody the momentum of the movement he helped start," Moore said. "This memorial, however, is about honoring the work of Rev. King and embracing his call for peace and understanding so that we can continue building a world where everyone can reach their full potential."

The memorial, which will be the first monument to a black American on the National Mall, is expected to be completed and open to the public in 2008.
