Pelosi Statement on the Death of Civil Rights Leader Enolia McMillan

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the death of Enolia McMillan, the first female president of the Baltimore chapter of the NAACP and the first female national president of the NAACP:

"Growing up in Baltimore, the name of Enolia McMillan was revered in my home. Rightly so, as there were few so remarkable and fierce champions for civil rights as she was.

"Our family was proud to work with Mrs. McMillan to desegregate our city after Brown vs. Board of Education. It was because of Mrs. McMillan - her commitment, her toil, and indeed, her disruptive thinking that brought the NAACP headquarters to Baltimore - and as such, her legacy continues to this day.

"I hope all of those who loved Mrs. McMillan, particularly her son and four grandchildren, are comforted by the fact that so many people are praying for them at this sad time."
