Special - Republican Leadership
Aloha.
The current controversy surrounding the predatory behavior of Representative Mark Foley should raise questions in the mind of every voter about the ability of the Republican party to lead our nation effectively.
Recent events demonstrate far more than the willingness of one man to abuse his position in order to prey upon those he pretended to protect. Revelations following his resignation have also shown us that Republican leaders in the U.S. House are all too willing to place their individual power, and the power of their party, above the well-being of young men and women whose welfare rested in the hands of our Congress.
Reports now tell us that the Republican leadership first turned a blind eye to Foley's unsavory actions, then relied upon denial when his behavior came to light. Now they are trying to divert attention by spinning the story to blame the media. They have done everything but accept responsibility for their gross dereliction of duty.
We must return control of Congress, both the Senate and the House of Representatives, to the Democratic party. Every seat held by a Democrat is critical, and Hawaii's returning a 100% Democratic Congressional delegation will play an important part in helping ensure that Congress is in the hands of reliable, responsible leaders.
