Aloha,
The 2006 election is our chance to say "stop" to the Republicans in Congress and the Bush Administration's flagrant abuses of power, misguided priorities and lack of leadership that has taken our country off course and in the wrong direction. We in Hawai`i must send a strong leader to Washington, someone who has a history of standing up for the rights of others. I have a history of standing up, fighting for what's right, of getting things done and getting results. In Congress, I will be your strong voice.
The article in the Honolulu Advertiser this week (printed here in the Washington Post) about how the Bush Administration picked who would go to Iraq to rebuild the country is infuriating. Skilled, extremely qualified, eager people were turned down because their loyalty to Bush was "uncertain." Potential employees were asked if they voted for Bush. A 24-year old with no financial experience was tapped to re-open the Iraqi stock market. An experienced international health expert was sent home and replaced by an anti-choice Bush supporter with no post-war experience to oversee the rebuilding of Iraq's healthcare facilities.
Men and women from Hawai`i - from all over the country - are in Iraq serving their country, and Bush is making the situation more dangerous and more deadly for them. We must send strong leaders to Congress - strong leaders who know how to get things done, and who have experience standing up to powerful people. My work in both the legislative and executive branches makes me that strong leader for Hawai`i.
I ask for your support and hope you will join me on Saturday in sending a message to President Bush and his Republican Congress that we are not going to stand for this incompetence and corruption any longer.
But to be your strong voice in Congress, I need your help now. Your support of my campaign has been crucial to its success. I have enjoyed meeting so many wonderful people across the district. Now, with just a few days left in this campaign, we need your help for our final push.
If there are calls you can make, friends and neighbors you can talk to, doors you can knock onwith so many candidates competing, every vote is gong to matter!
I promise you that if you are my strong voice across the district in this last week, I will be your strong in Washington for years to come.
