GRAVES TOURS HABITAT FOR HUMANITY HOUSE IN LIBERTY

LIBERTY - U.S. Congressman Sam Graves toured a nearly completed Liberty home built by Heartland Habitat for Humanity volunteers and William Jewell College students today. Graves also spoke with volunteers about the importance of community involvement.

"Today in Liberty, we see another shining example of this extraordinary organization and its team of dedicated volunteers who made this project happen," said Graves. "Students and staff of William Jewel College gave their spring Saturday mornings to make a home for those in need."

William Jewel College participates in a program called "Sophomore Year Experience." Last spring, college sophomores volunteered their Saturday mornings to help work on the house. The project was financed in part by Liberty Savings Bank, and headed by bank board member, Marvin Weishaar.

"It is this kind of teamwork and effort within a community that makes Liberty a great place to call home," said Graves.

Heartland Habitat for Humanity's goal is to eliminate poverty housing. Homes are sold with no profit made. Homeowners contribute "sweat equity" and house payments are recycled to build additional homes. For more information about Heartland Habitat for Humanity, visit www.heartlandhabitat.org.
