GRAVES MEETS WITH SIXTH DISTRICT MANUFACTURERS
Congressman talks about trade and ideas for strengthening manufacturing

LIBERTY - U.S. Congressman Sam Graves met with manufacturers from across the Sixth District today. The meeting was a chance for Graves to update the group on legislation and understand some of the industries' concerns. Graves noted the importance of trade to the Sixth Congressional District.

"Manufacturing is an important part of the Sixth District's economy," said Graves. "These businesses are economic drivers for the whole region."

Graves noted that government regulations cost manufacturers more than any other industry. The cost of complying per worker in manufacturing is roughly $8,000 an employee, almost twice the average for all other U.S. industries. The Congressman said this only hurts job growth in the manufacturing sector.

"The more rules and regulations that are piled on companies, the harder it is to stay in business. The cost of doing business is costing us businesses," said Graves. "The House will keep its commitment to promoting job-growth policies. Reducing taxes and ending sanctions are important first steps in encouraging job growth."

Graves is a third-term Congressman representing northwest and central Missouri. He is a Deputy Whip, a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and the Chairman of the Small Business Sub-Committee on Rural Enterprises, Agriculture and Technology.
