Economy Continues to Thrive with 51,000 Jobs Added in September

Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) today praised the continued positive economic news after the Bureau of Labor Statistics' announcement that the economy gained 51,000 jobs in September.

"Republicans want the American people to have opportunities for to succeed, and our policies are doing the job of helping creating more jobs," Diaz-Balart said. "Despite Democrat protests, the economy continues to thrive. We now have had more than three straight years of consecutive job growth. Republican economic policies work and the proof is in the pudding: 37 straight months of job gains, rising wages, falling unemployment, a robust and increasing GDP, record-high Dow Jones, 6.6 million new jobs since August 2003, and the fasted growing economy of any major industrialized nation."

The Bureau of Labor Statistics also announced that the unemployment rate is 4.6 percent, lower than the average of the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. The economy continues to thrive. Yesterday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at a record high. Gross domestic product grew 2.6 percent in the second quarter of 2006 - the 19th consecutive quarter of economic growth - and inflation appears to be stable. As the economy continues to grow, the cost of living has dropped, thanks to falling gas prices, which have dropped significantly from this time last year.
