Rocking the Vote in Burlington
Burlington, Vermont - October 25, 2006
Political candidates spend a lot of time trying to get their supporters out to vote and Independent Bernie Sanders is using an idea developed by the Democrats.
The Sanders campaign organized a "Rock the Vote" rally for students at the University of Vermont. Music and pizza attracted a couple of hundred. Sanders attacked the Bush administration on several issues, and told the students they're living in one of the most anti-war states in the union.
"And we should all be proud that of the fifty states in America, there was one unanimous delegation which said no to the war in Iraq. And that was the Vermont delegation," says Rep. Bernie Sanders, Independent for U.S. Senate.
Sanders supporters registered students right on the spot and later offered them a van ride downtown where they could cast their votes early at city hall.
