Pelosi: ‘Democrats Have Long Fought for Middle-Income Tax Cuts'

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on President Bush's comments on Leader Pelosi during his press conference at the White House:

"President Bush and his Rubber Stamp Republican Congress can't seem to grasp that Democrats have long fought for middle-income tax cuts. This is in stark contrast to the Republican tax breaks for the super rich that have led to a budget that is grossly out of balance and a national debt that is morally indefensible.

"Democrats propose a New Direction to provide real tax help to hard-pressed families, which will inject demand into our economy, spur economic growth that will produce jobs, and reduce the deficit, and we will do it in a fiscally responsible way."
