Buchanan Supports Line-Item Veto Proposal

Sarasota - Vern Buchanan, Republican Congressional Candidate for Florida's 13th District, released the following statement supporting the president's proposed line-item veto:

"The line-item veto would be a useful tool to help cut wasteful government spending and restore proper fiscal discipline to the federal budget process. Forty-three states allow their governors some form of line-item veto to help keep their own government spending under control.

As Members of Congress propose line-item veto legislation in the coming weeks, I will carefully consider support for proposals that I believe will withstand a constitutional challenge in the courts.

While the federal government continues to create record deficits, we are leaving future generations a legacy of debt. Government spending is out of control with $200 million ‘bridges to nowhere' and thousands of pork-barrel projects that we simply cannot afford.

Like most families and small businesses in America, I understand that you do not spend more than you take in. Why should Washington be expected to do any less?"
