Hours before first major debate leading up to the 4th Congressional District's runoff, Hank Johnson pulled off a law enforcement coup, snagging the endorsements of each of the district's three sheriffs.

DeKalb County Sheriff Thomas Brown and Gwinnett County Sheriff R.L. "Butch" Conway, attended a press conference with Johnson today on the steps of Dekalb's Old County Courthouse — in front of the police memorial — to announce their support. Rockdale County Sheriff Jeff Wigington did not attend the announcement, but his office confirmed his support.

"I am a lifelong advocate for justice, public safety and, most especially, our public safety officers," said Johnson, who faces incumbent U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney in the Aug. 8 runoff. "I abide by the law. I respect the sworn personnel who protect citizens and uphold the law. I am very gratified that they would endorse my campaign."
