HANK JOHNSON CONFIRMS MCKINNEY CALL, URGES UNITY IN GENERAL ELECTION
Decatur - 4th Congressional Democratic nominee Hank Johnson has confirmed that he and Cynthia McKinney have spoken.
"Ms. McKinney telephoned and was most gracious," said Johnson. "She indicated that she, too, wants a smooth transition in November and that her office will assist me when the time comes."
Johnson asked for McKinney's backing and that of her supporters in his general election campaign. "Moving forward it is time for Democrats to unite to retain this congressional seat. I intend to represent all voters in the District and I, too, will be a strong and independent voice in Washington," said Johnson.
A lifelong Democrat Johnson said, "While we have differences in style I am confident that Ms. McKinney's supporters will see that we share many of the same positions on issues. I am against the war in Iraq. I believe all citizens should have access to affordable health care and prescription drugs. Education is a priority and I will work to bring more jobs and economic development to the 4 th Congressional District."
Following eight months of non-stop campaigning throughout the District, Mr. Johnson is taking a brief family vacation. He will return to the campaign trail on Monday, August 14 th. For more information call 770-323-4265 or visit www.hankforcongress.com .
