Press Release - McNerney Takes Campaign Message to Cable
DUBLIN, CAThe McNerney for Congress campaign announced today the beginning of a district-wide cable television ad campaign. The 30-second spot contrasts Jerry's outlook with that of his opponent, Rich Pombo.
Ending with the call, "let's change things," the ad highlights the difference between the two candidates on our nation's dependence on foreign oil, veterans' benefits, the war in Iraq, and congressional corruption.
Citing $3 per-gallon gasoline as evidence of the failure of congressional concessions to Pombo's big-oil donors, the spot asks voters to vote for change. Wind-energy expert McNerney presents himself as an alternative to a failed national policy that makes the United States dependent on Mideast oil.
A second-time challenger for the seat, Democrat McNerney is running a much more aggressive campaign this time. The TV ads alone cost almost as much as the campaign spent in the entire 2004 race.
McNerney says, "our campaign has always relied heavily on person-to-person contactand that's not going to change. But with the greater fundraising success we've had in this cycle, we've been able to add more elements to our outreach, and more ways to get our message out."
