U.S. HOUSE TO VOTE TODAY ON MARRIAGE PROTECTION AMENDMENT

(Savannah, Georgia) Max Burns, former Congressman running to represent Georgia's new 12th District, today called on Athens Congressman John Barrow to vote for H. J. Res. 88, a constitutional amendment introduced by Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave which defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman. Burns co-sponsored and voted for this exact amendment while in the 108th Congress.

"Running to represent Athens in Congress, John Barrow attacked me for supporting a federal constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman," Burns recalled. "Today, however, I challenge John Barrow not to get cold feet; remember he's not in Athens anymore, drop his claim that gay rights ‘is the civil rights issue of our time' and make sure to vote to defend the institution of marriage."
