Max knows reducing the tax burden on Georgia's working families is critical to expanding our economy and providing more jobs and opportunities for our communities. My record is clear on taxes - less of them and I'll work to enact a tax code that is simple, fair and honest through common sense reforms. Our current tax system is broken. The IRS code is complex, convoluted, and onerous. We are well beyond rectifying the unfairness of the IRS by tinkering around the edges. The system is in need of transformation and Max is willing to examine any number of proposals that will lower the tax burden on Georgia's working families. An honest tax code that is simple, fair and less burdensome to families and small businesses is something Max supports.

* A Solid Record of Tax Reform. Max established himself as one of the leading tax reformers in the U.S House of Representatives by introducing and passing legislation that simplified tax filing for millions of Americans. The Simple Tax for Seniors Act created the first-ever short-form "1040S" for America's seniors, and the Tax Simplification for Americans Act of 2004 expanded the use of the short 1040EZ form to millions of Americans. Max led the House debate when it came to repealing the unfair "death tax" that kills so many small businesses and family farms; voted for President Bush's 2003 tax cuts and supports making the President's tax cuts permanent.

* Protect The Taxpayer By Pledging Not To Raise Taxes. Last election, Max's opponent intentionally misled voters claiming his support of the Fair Tax would raise your taxes. In Congress, Max has never supported a tax increase and he never will. By signing the Tax Payer Protection Pledge, Max agrees to oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and businesses.

* Lower Taxes for a Growing Economy. Raising taxes and giving Congress more money to spend is not the answer to a growing economy, but letting Georgian families keep and spend more of their own money through lower taxes is. I understand that the five million new jobs created in the current recovery are no accident. Those jobs, the growing economy, and spreading prosperity are all a direct result of our decision to lower taxes. And it is precisely those jobs and lower taxes that are at risk in this election.
