Graves Visits Platte City
Congressman Convenes Veterans Advisory Council and Visits Platte River Bank
LIBERTY - U.S. Congressman Sam Graves visited Platte City today. The Congressman hosted a Veteran's Advisory Council meeting at the Platte City Lion's Club, and then made a site visit to the Platte River Bank to view erosion problems threatening the city sewer line.
Graves updated the group of Veterans on the progress that is being made on the War on Terror, and spoke about his recent trip to Iraq. Graves also provided an update on Representative Jason Brown's condition and asked the veterans to keep him in their thoughts and prayers.
"Our soldiers are confronting an enemy that would prefer to kill innocent civilians in American cities," Graves said. "We have to continue to fight terrorists on our terms, not theirs."
Graves also spoke about Congress' commitment to veterans. He noted a number of bills, including the Veterans Benefits Improvements Act and the Veterans' Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act, improving housing interest rates, insurance coverage, and an increase in rates of veterans' disability compensation.
"I'm committed to making sure that we take care of those at home who have protected and fought for our freedom abroad," said Graves. "Our veterans dedicated their lives to our country, and our government must dedicate its resources to the health of our veterans."
Before leaving town, Graves also made a site visit to the Platte River back. Graves met with city officials and toured the river bank to view first-hand the bank erosion problem on the Platte River in Platte City. Graves has been working with the city and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers since May 2005 to stop the erosion which is currently threatening the city sewer line.
Graves is a third-term Congressman representing northwest and central Missouri. He is a Deputy Whip, a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and the Chairman of the Small Business Sub-Committee on Rural Enterprises, Agriculture and Technology.
