Press Release - Crapo: Agriculture, Forestry Industries Have Role in Renewable Energy Use

Washington, DC - Idaho Senator Mike Crapo joined with his Senate colleagues to support a Senate resolution aimed at upping the use of renewable energy resources in the United States. Crapo co-sponsored S.Con.Res. 97, which was approved unanimously by the Senate in the final hours before adjournment over the weekend. The resolution expresses the sense of Congress that by January 1, 2025, the United States should meet no less than one-quarter of its energy needs with renewable resources. The resolution was sent to the full Senate from the Senate Agriculture Committee, on which Crapo sits.

"The United States is a world leader in so many areas, and it's time that we made renewable energy resources a priority for our country," Crapo said. "Renewable energy will help us meet rapidly growing energy demands as well as reduce our country's dependence of foreign and non-renewable energy sources. It is our country's best interests to craft policies that will encourage and accelerating renewable energy production and research. Ultimately, not only do energy-intensive industries like agriculture benefit, but consumers will, too."

Crapo has been a champion of renewable energy and has visited several renewable energy sites in Idaho, including wind farms in the Magic Valley area. He is a member of the U.S. Senate Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Caucus.
