HOBSON & TURNER: HOUSE APPROVES $400M IN FUNDING FOR OHIO DEFENSE PROJECTS
Funding Included In Defense Appropriations Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C.- U.S. Representatives Dave Hobson (R-Springfield) and Michael Turner (R-Centerville) announced today that the House of Representatives has approved $400 million in funding for Ohio defense projects included in the Conference Report to accompany the Fiscal Year 2007 Defense Appropriations bill (H.R. 5631). In addition, $1.63 billion was included in the defense bill for Up-Armored vehicles to support operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The bill was approved by a vote of 394 to 22.

The funding supports a variety of research and development programs at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB), and other facilities in the Miami Valley and Central Ohio regions. Hobson, a senior member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, and Turner worked closely with the Dayton Development Coalition and community leaders to identify research programs with the most potential for future growth to be funded through the bill. Turner is a member of the House Armed Services Committee.

"The DOD Appropriations Conference Report provides funding essential to fighting the war on terror and keeping America and our families safer. It ensures that Wright-Patterson will continue to provide U.S. troops with the advantages on the battlefields of tomorrow. The funds will also support emerging technologies and industries that will result in additional jobs for our region," Turner said.

"This defense funding bill will support our military forces here at home and overseas, while at the same time provide for needed equipment purchases and support for defense research and development at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base," Hobson said. "I am pleased that the House has approved this legislation to help us move forward in our fight against terrorism and to maintain our technological edge in military research."
