McCollum Statement Celebrating the Holy Month of Ramadan
Wednesday, September 27, 2006
Washington, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) issued the following statement to celebrate the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan, which began at dusk on September 24th and will continue for one lunar month:
"This week marks the commencement of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, and a time of fasting, self-control and devotion to God. I wish all Muslim families a very special and peaceful Ramadan.
"At the start of this month of spiritual reflection and spiritual renewal, I hope Minnesotans of all faiths have the opportunity to learn about Ramadan from our Muslim brothers and sisters, friends and neighbors. The American Muslim community is strong, vibrant and growing, and this month provides us the opportunity to recognize their many contributions to our country. It is an honor and privilege to celebrate the month of Ramadan with Minnesota communities.
"Ramadan Mubarak! May you and your family be blessed during this sacred time."
