Ensures Parental Rights with Vote

U.S. Representative John Boozman (R - AR) today voted to protect the health of minor children and ensure parental rights by voting for S. 403, the Child Custody Prevention Act.

The legislation makes it a federal crime to transport a minor across state lines to have an abortion with the intent of evading parental consent or notification laws in the minor's home state. The bill also requires abortion providers in interstate abortions to provide notification of the minor's decision to the minor's parents or legal guardian 24 hours before the abortion is to be performed.

"Parental consent forms are needed for school field trips - it is unconscionable to think a minor daughter can undergo a potentially dangerous medical procedure without their parents' knowledge or consent," Boozman said. "As a strong believer in the dignity of all human life, I will work to defend those who cannot defend themselves. To this end, I will continue to support measures before Congress that promote the sanctity of life."
