Boozman Safeguards Religious Expression
Takes tool away from special interests

U.S. Representative John Boozman (R - AR) today safeguarded the people's right to religion freedom with his vote to pass H.R. 2679, the Public Expression of Religion Act.

The legislation amends federal law to prevent attorney's fees from being awarded in Establishment Clause lawsuits. The bill would now make each party shoulder the responsibility.

"The First Amendment is a guarantee against the government establishing a religion, not a guarantee from religion," Boozman said. "Today we take a tool of coercion away from interest groups who threaten costly lawsuits and large attorney's fees to prevent the construction of constitutionally protected displays of religion.
