BLACKBURN RESPONDS TO PELOSI: NO TIME FOR EQUIVOCATION IN WAR ON TERRORISM

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Representative Marsha Blackburn (TN-7th District) today responded to House Democrat Leader Nancy Pelosi's (D-CA) comments at a weekly press conference that capturing Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden would not make America safer.

"Terrorists are clearly united in their desire to kill Americans and destroy the United States," Blackburn said. "We must approach terrorism with the same determination that marks our enemy's efforts and that means no equivocating on the threat individuals like Osama bin Laden pose to the United States. Every terrorist we capture or kill sends a strong message to our enemies and makes us safer.

"Anyone who watched the September 11th attacks unfold knows the cunning and pure malevolence with which our enemy operates. America didn't take Osama bin Laden seriously enough prior to the attacks and it's critical we don't underestimate him now. There are clearly a broad range of threats we must counter, but the capture of Osama bin Laden would help demoralize our enemies and weaken their organizational structure.

"The thousands of families mourning loved ones lost on September 11th consider Osama bin Laden worth capturing and so do I. This is a not only a matter of making America safer, but justice for those murdered."
