At Warren Cookout, Whitehouse Calls for Prescription Drug Reform
Shares Ideas for Change with Bristol, Barrington, and Warren Residents

Cranston, R.I. - With the beautiful Warren Town Wharf as a backdrop, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Sheldon Whitehouse and over 150 residents of Bristol, Barrington, and Warren came together to talk about the issues at a hot-dog-and-hamburger community cookout. Whitehouse shared his ideas for fixing the disastrous Part D prescription drug program

"Our health care system is a mess that's crying out for reform," Whitehouse said. "But this administration and its Republican allies in Congress have only made it worse - with higher costs for prescription drugs and more confusion for seniors who depend on Medicare Part D to get by. We've got to do better, and with new Democratic leadership in the Senate, we will."

Whitehouse has proposed a bold plan to fix the Medicare prescription drug program with a simple, straightforward plan that gives Medicare the power to negotiate with drug companies for lower prices, offers a Medicare-administered alternative to the private plans, and gives seniors the flexibility to switch plans if an insurance company changes the coverage it promised to provide.

Whitehouse's community dinners, held in every part of the state, have become a signature of his campaign and an opportunity for Rhode Islanders to take part in an open, engaging dialogue on a wide range of issues.
