Lamont Labor Support Continues to Grow: Council 4 AFSCME Changes Endorsement to Ned Lamont

LAMONT LABOR SUPPORT CONTINUES TO GROW: COUNCIL 4 AFSCME CHANGES ENDORSEMENT TO NED LAMONT

(Statewide) - Council 4 AFSCME, Connecticut's largest AFL-CIO union with over 35,000 members, voted to endorse Ned Lamont for U.S. Senate.
As a sign of growing Labor support for Lamont, this endorsement represents the biggest union so far to switch its endorsement to Lamont after endorsing Lieberman in the primary.

"We saw Lieberman moving closer and closer to Bush while Ned Lamont held firm in his strong opposition to the direction Bush is taking us," said Sal Luciano, executive director of Council 4. "With nearly 400,000 Connecticut citizens going uninsured, our state is facing a serious health care crisis. Ned Lamont supports universal health care that will provide high quality health care for all."

In addition to the desire to elect a Senator who will stand up to Bush and Cheney, Luciano added, education, jobs and, healthcare all played deciding roles in the endorsement

Lamont said he was most proud of how his campaign has so far energized voters and spurred many new ones to go to the polls to vote for change.
"A record number of voters turned out in the primary to call for change, and now our message is resonating all across the state," Lamont said. "The people of Connecticut know we must change course in Iraq and at home to put this country back on track. It is time we have a Senator who will go to Washington to fight for change and hold leaders accountable, so that we can put Connecticut's interests first."
