Tom Kean Jr. issued the following statement on the President's veto:
"I am disappointed President Bush vetoed this important legislation, and I believe that the first exercise of such a powerful tool as the presidential veto should not have been used to limit the hopes and dreams of so many Americans, who believe as strongly as I do, in the promise of stem cell research.
The House and Senate participated in a robust debate on the ethical and practical questions of stem cell research and both houses of Congress overwhelmingly supported this measure. I call upon the Congress to override the President's veto and permit the hope.
