WASHINGTON — The Federal Emergency Management Agency remains short-staffed despite efforts to ramp up for this year's hurricane season, FEMA Director David Paulison said Friday.

Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., the ranking Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee, said Friday he was "disappointed" that the agency is not fully staffed yet. "We've been fortunate not to have had a hurricane so far this year," he said, adding that FEMA had promised his committee to have 90 percent of the posts filled by June 1.

"They say the right things, but when it comes time to demonstrate them, they leave a lot to be desired," Thompson said.
