U.S. Representative Diana DeGette Statement on BLM Proposal to Allow Drilling On Roan Plateau
U.S. Representative Diana DeGette (D-CO) released the following statement on the Bureau of Land Management proposal to allow drilling on the Roan Plateau.
"I am furious with the Bush Administration for issuing a plan to open the Roan Plateau for oil and gas drilling. The sweeping cliffs, roaring waterfalls and old-growth aspen trees of the Plateau could be completely decimated by the Bush Administration's plan. While this proposal does call for limited protection in certain areas, the broad scope of drilling will destroy the special wilderness character of the Plateau.
"Once again the Bush Administration has chosen the interests of big oil over the average American. The Administration has arrogantly ignored thousands of comments from concerned citizens and surrounding communities who want the Plateau preserved for its natural beauty, recreation opportunities, and wildlife habitat.
"I will do everything in my power to stop this short sighted and destructive proposal."
