The Alternative Minimum Tax was initially created to ensure that affluent families paid some tax, and it was useful when created in the early 1970s.

However, middle class incomes have been growing because of inflation since then, and, within five years, half of all families in New York will be burdened with this new secret tax.

Kirsten is very concerned with the extra tax New Yorkers will be forced to pay because those in power in Washington have not updated the tax code to keep pace with inflation.

She will fight to change the parameters of the Alternative Minimum tax so that it will go back to only affecting wealthy families, staying true to the spirit of the original tax.

"I am very concerned that we make an adjustment, and we need to do it right away," Kirsten said recently. When you send Kirsten Gillibrand to Congress, she will show true leadership in fighting to help middle class families and exempt them from the Alternative Minimum Tax.
