Senator McConnell Supports New Leadership In Cambodia

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell today issued the following statement in support of the new leadership in Cambodia:

"The Alliance of Democrats must be recognized for its courage and determination to bring democracy, human rights, and the rule of law to Cambodia. The Alliance deserves America's support in ensuring new leadership comes to Cambodia. The status quo only means more violence, lawlessness, poverty and abuses for the Cambodian people.

"The demand of the Alliance that Prime Minister Hun Sen step aside is reasonable and realistic. It is in America's interest that Cambodia becomes a stable and democratic nation grounded in the rule of law. This will not happen under Hun Sen. Instead, the Prime Minister has created an environment in which terrorism and triad activities flourish.

"I will continue to follow developments in Cambodia, and will hold Prime Minister Hun Sen personally responsible for the security and safety of his political opponents."
