Tom Announces Support for Referendum on Illegal Alien Driver's Licenses Bill

"I am honored to join with concerned Californian's to invoke California's referendum process to stop SB 60."

"If this law is allowed to take effect, the California drivers license now held
by millions of Californians will be rendered useless as proof of legal residency. It will make the process of obtaining fraudulent identification as simple as obtaining a taxpayer ID number and showing up at the Department of Motor Vehicles. It is ironic that while other states are tightening up on the issuance of drivers licenses after the attack on September 11th, California is moving in the opposite direction."

"There is only one purpose for this bill: it is to place valid state identification documents in the hands of illegal immigrants. And the only reason for doing that is to undermine enforcement of our immigration laws."

"And sadly, by undermining our immigration laws, it undermines the process of legal immigration that is a strength of our nation."
