Pelosi: The President's Misguided Focus on Iraq Has Made Americans Less Safe'
House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in response to President Bush's speech to the Military Officers Association of America:
"While President Bush has outlined the threats that terrorists pose to Americans, none of the goals President Bush cited for the effort against terrorism are being advanced by the war in Iraq. President Bush's failed Iraq policies have handed the terrorists a useful recruiting tool and limited our ability to respond to security challenges elsewhere in the region and the world.
"Fighting the wrong war in Iraq has not ended the threat posed by al-Qaeda and its Taliban allies in Afghanistan, nor has it brought Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri to justice. The perpetrator of the October 2001 anthrax attacks is still at large and gaps in security at our ports, our chemical plants, and in our commercial aircraft remain unaddressed. The President's misguided focus on Iraq has made Americans less safe, at home and abroad."
