Washington Working Families Deserve Their Shot at the American Dream
On Labor Day, we are reminded that America's working families deserve better. They deserve a living wage. They deserve quality, affordable health care. They deserve access to education. They deserve to be able to count on Social Security for their retirement. They deserve our respect and our thanks.
But instead of doing right by our working families, the Republican leadership in Washington, D.C. keeps making the wrong choices.
Congress needs get back to work doing the people's business, putting people first, and making sure that you, not special interests, are getting ahead.
Rather than making it harder for working Americans to pay for basic health care, heat their homes, fill up their gas tanks, send their children to college, and save for retirement, we should be working to make life more affordable.
Harry Truman said it simply and clearly:
"Being an American is not just a matter of where your parents came from. It is a belief that all men are created free and equal and that everyone deserves an equal break."
I will never stop putting you first. I will never stop fighting to make sure Washington working families have their shot at the American Dream. I will never stop trying to make sure the choices that D.C. makes are your choices.
Together, we can get our country back on the right track.
