Clearly the Time for Reforms for Corporate Accountability Has Come.

Clearly the time for reforms for corporate accountability has come.

For real reform to happen, however, "Enron conservatives" must be replaced. Corporate lobbies must be curbed and executives must be held accountable.

A market economy prospers when consumers can depend on the government to outlaw price fixing, inspect our food, test our drugs, and protect our air and water. A market economy prospers when employees can trust that their pensions and workplaces will be kept safe. A market economy prospers when the gains from productivity and growth fuels a thriving middle class, limiting the extremes of poverty and entrenched wealth.

A market economy prospers when honest companies do not experience a competitive disadvantage to dishonest ones. A market economy prospers when investors can trust the numbers that corporations report and con rely on the vigilance of independent accountants, investment advisors, and corporate boards.

* I will work to shut down offshore corporate tax shelters.
* I will work to protect worker pension funds from corporate raids, forcing insiders to reveal when they are selling their stock.
* I will work to encourage corporations to place worker representatives on the boards of all pension and savings plans.
* I will work to have companies account for stock options given to executives.
* And, I will work to make auditors and investment analysts independent, to ban auditors from consulting with the firms they audit, to ban investment analysts from being paid bonuses for generating bank business from the company
