Aloha,

I have focused my past few weekly messages on the values of opportunity, freedom, and security. This is the biggest difference between conservative Republicans and Democrats. As Democrats, we have a deeply ingrained sense of responsibility to provide opportunity, freedom, and security to everyone as opposed to a select few. Giving a huge tax break to the richest 2 percent of people in our country is not consistent with our values.

In the coming weeks I will focus on specific issues like education, the environment, and Iraq. While each of these issues is important in and of itself, they fall into the broader set of progressive values described above.
