HOUSE DEMOCRATIC CAUCUS APPROVES GULF COAST PRAYER RESOLUTION, DEMOCRATS PLAN TRIP TO REGION

WASHINGTON, DCHouse Democratic Caucus Chairman, James E. Clyburn today announced that the Caucus unanimously approved a resolution to establish Saturday, August 26 and Sunday, August 27, 2006 as a Time for National Prayer and Remembrance for the victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Clyburn also announced that Democratic members of the Gulf Coast, Charlie Melancon, (D-La.), William Jefferson (D-La.) and Gene Taylor (D-Miss.) and the Caucus's Katrina Task Force will lead a delegation of Democrats to the region to mark the anniversary of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and continue their commitment to rebuild this important part of our nation.
"Many members of the Democratic Caucus have traveled to the Gulf Coast to listen, learn and help rebuild," said Clyburn. "Although many have reached out with resources over the past twelve months, it's important that we as a nation take time to recognize the challenges our fellow Americans face, and stand behind them as a nation in prayer. But Democrats will not stop there. Much work is left to be done. Democrats plan to travel to the Gulf Coast to mark the anniversary of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, work with the citizens of the region and push for a new direction that rejuvenates and restores the lives, homes and livelihoods of our fellow Americans. We must support and rebuild our Gulf Coast."
