Wall Calls for Rumsfeld to Resign

Time for Fresh Start in Iraq, Afghanistan

Issuing a call for accountability at the highest levels of government, Jamie Wall, Democratic candidate for Congress in Wisconsin's 8th District, today issued the following statement calling for the resignation of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld:

"Our troops have performed magnificently in demanding circumstances in recent years. It's time to give them the leadership they deserve, and it's long past time to demand accountability from the senior leadership at the Defense Department.

Sec. Rumsfeld failed to develop and execute a plan to stabilize Iraq in the crucial months following the invasion, ignoring the advice of military leaders such as Gen. Eric Shinseki. He failed to ensure that our troops have the resources that they need, from adequate body armor to translators. He also failed to prioritize the training of Iraqi military and police forces, jeopardizing the success of our mission in Iraq.

Now we are paying the price for this mismanagement. Sec. Rumsfeld has failed too often, and the stakes are simply too high. We need a fresh start in Iraq and Afghanistan. Sec. Rumsfeld cannot give it to us. He must resign."

Wall invited supporters to sign an online petition calling for Rumsfeld's resignation at www.wallforcongress.com.
