Wall Calls for Congressional Ethics Reform
Calls on House to adopt "A Proposal to Make Congress Work"
As numerous ethics scandals ripple through Washington, Jamie Wall, Democratic candidate for Congress, today called for a reform of House ethics rules and pledged his support for the Obey-Frank-Price-Allen reform package proposed last month.
"The relationship between the Republican Congress and corrupt lobbyists has become far too cozy. It seems like there's a new scandal every day, and Congress is making the American people wonder who they're really working for," said Wall. "I support this proposal because we need serious changes to clean up Washington."
The reform package, "A Proposal to Make Congress Work," calls for major changes to House rules. If adopted, the package would forbid lobbyists from Congressional travel, end the practice of using earmarks to buy votes for questionable legislation, curb the Congressional leadership's abuse of power by ending extended roll call votes, and prohibit the House from voting on legislation without giving members time to familiarize themselves with it.
"Wisconsin families expect Congress to focus on our priorities, not the priorities of powerful lobbyists and special interests," Wall continued. "We must restore the public's confidence by passing this reform package."
Wall urged supporters to join him in calling for ethics reform by signing on as citizen co-sponsors of this package. More information is available at www.WallforCongress.com.
