Creating Jobs

I've spent most of my adult life as a businessman, and I've just spent two years promoting job creation in Wisconsin as head of the state's economic development programs. I am a founding member of the Northeast Wisconsin Economic Development Partnership, which brings together leaders in business, education, government, and labor to help grow the region's economy. Quality jobs, and more of them, will help almost all of the problems we face here in Northeast Wisconsin.

Helping our manufacturers - Manufacturing is the backbone of the Northeast Wisconsin economy, and we need to support manufacturing companies and the high-quality jobs they provide. That means helping them to modernize their operations to stay competitive by funding resources like the Manufacturing Extension Partnership. It also means fighting to ensure that trade agreements are fair for American workers and businesses.

Maintaining a skilled labor force - Northeast Wisconsin has some of the best-trained and hardest-working people in the world, and the quality of our state's workforce was my biggest selling point when I worked to bring new jobs to Wisconsin. We need to maintain the quality education systems that produce those workers, and we need to help people of all backgrounds get the education they need to fulfill their dreams.

Promoting entrepreneurship - Northeast Wisconsin needs more new companies that can turn a new idea into new jobs. I've worked in a start-up business myself, and I've seen firsthand the struggles that entrepreneurs face. We can help new businesses by helping increase their access to the money they need and by helping them avoid common mistakes. That's why I worked with a national philanthropic foundation and many state non-profit organizations to develop the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs' Network which helps new businesses right here in Northeast Wisconsin. Resources like the Small Business Administration can also help create new companies and new jobs.
