Hoyer Endorses Stuart Simms for Attorney General
Says Baltimore Attorney Is Most Qualified

Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (D-Mechanicsville) today announced his endorsement of Stuart Simms, a well-respected lawyer and former public official, as the next Attorney General of Maryland.

"Stu Simms has spent his entire career fighting to strengthen our communities," Hoyer said. "As Secretary of Juvenile Services and Secretary of Public Safety and Correctional Services under the Glendening Administration, he established a strong record of keeping our neighborhoods safe."

Hoyer said Simms, a thoughtful and conscientious leader, would stand up for average hard working families as the state's chief legal officer. "Under the Ehrlich-Steele Administration, special interests have too often won out over the public interest," he said. "Stu would continue Attorney General Curran's efforts to combat Maryland Republicans' anti-worker, anti-consumer agenda and fighting for corporate responsibility."

A native of Baltimore, Simms is the son of a Bethlehem Steel worker and high school teacher. He broke racial barriers by becoming one of the first African Americans to graduate from the Gilman School and holds degrees from Dartmouth College and Harvard Law School. "Stu's life story is an inspiration and his experience makes him the most qualified candidate running for Attorney General," Hoyer said. "I am proud to endorse him."
