Flood-Stricken Homeowners Should Apply For Grant

State Senator Dina Titus today urged Nevadans whose homes were damaged by this last weekend's severe flooding to take advantage of a state disaster assistance program created as part of the DMV registration rebate legislation last year.

"As people put their lives back together from the flood damage that occurred this last weekend, there is some special help available to them through the state," said Titus, who worked with Reno Assemblyman Bernie Anderson to include disaster assistance funds in 2005 legislation creating the $300 million DMV registration rebate program.

"We were able to include in the rebate legislation up to $5 million in assistance funds for Nevadans who own and occupy homes that are damaged by a disaster. These are funds that will help people make repairs to their homes and get back on their feet," Titus said.

"This last weekend's flooding is exactly the kind of disaster this money was meant to address, and the kind of help it was meant to provide."

The disaster assistance funds are administered through the Nevada Division of Emergency Management within the Department of Public Safety.

"I have spoken with the head of the Division of Emergency Management today and they are eager to help," Titus said.
