Senator Titus' Campaign For Governor Exceeds $1 Million Fundraising Goal

Drawing from a wide base of support, Sen. Dina Titus, D-Las Vegas, raised more than $1 million in her campaign for governor, surpassing all fundraising goals for 2005.
Of the $1.15 million raised in Titus' run for governor, more than 62 percent of contributors gave donations of $100 or less -- showing a wide base of support for her candidacy.
"This truly shows me there is a grassroots effort out there to get me elected," Titus said. "Many of the small donations you see came from people who contributed through our Internet site, a tool that has helped us reach out to hundreds of citizens who want to see this state prosper under my leadership."
Contributions arrived from ranchers, farmers and miners in places like Stagecoach, Lovelock, Crescent Valley and Alamo. Altogether, support for Titus came from 32 Nevadan communities, representing 13 of 17 counties.
"This shows me that my message is really resonating with people all over the state," Titus said. "I've been saying; let government do what it does best: educate our kids, lock up the bad guys, provide services for the common good, and then get out of the way."
Titus was also helped by Emily's List, a pro-choice women's group that raised $75,000 for the campaign.
While Titus led the way in raising money from small-dollar donations, she also raised the bar on campaign disclosure -- calling on all candidates to disclose the names of individuals who give to political campaigns under the guise of Limited Liability Companies (LLCs).
"We've gone to great lengths on our reports to identify the individuals who contributed to our campaign using an LLC and I would hope my opponents will do the same," Titus said. "For anyone who has ever looked at a campaign contribution and expense report, they know how difficult a task this is. That is why my legislation is needed more than ever, because it ensures the process is more open so citizens will finally know where the money is really coming from."
