Helping Hand For Rural Nevada

Statement

Rural communities often enjoy unique resources, but face special problems that can hinder their development. States across the country have begun to approach this issue with a variety of creative policies. Here in Nevada, I have sponsored SB 158 which would create a Nevada Economic Trust Fund of $7.5 million to provide grants to public and private nonprofit entities in rural Nevada. The funds would support economic development ventures, such as the development of industrial parks, renewable energy projects, tourism-related projects, and infrastructure to support businesses. Such projects will help rural communities become economically productive. The bill is supported by: the Nevada Commission on Economic Development, City of Caliente, Lander County, Lincoln County, Humboldt County, Humboldt Development Authority, White Pine Diversification Council, Elko Diversification Authority, ECEDA, Elko Chamber of Commerce, Elko County Commission, Carson City County, Douglas County, Lyon County, Mineral County, and the City of Las Vegas.
