Tipton, MI- Congressman Joe Schwarz once again voted to keep America dependent on foreign sources of energy. On May 25, 2006, Congressman Schwarz voted against H.R. 5429 [Roll Call Vote 209] which would allow drilling for oil in Alaska.

President Bush said of the bill, "It will make America less dependent on foreign sources of energy, eventually by up to a million barrels of crude oil a day - a nearly 20 percent increase over our current domestic production."

U.S. Energy Secretary Sam Bodman said, "Had President Clinton not vetoed the ANWR drilling bill in 1995, we would have at least an additional 1 million barrels a day of domestic oil production … today."

"I support developing alternative energy sources and drilling for oil in Alaska to reduce our dependence on foreign oil imports. It is a shame Congressman Joe Schwarz stands with Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, and Ted Kennedy in opposition to drilling for oil in Alaska," said Tim Walberg.
