Strengthen National Security and Win the War on Terror
As a six year veteran of the National Guard and your next Congressman, I will stand with President Bush to fight terrorism and protect our homeland. As recent events around the world have demonstrated, the battle for freedom is far from over. We must continue to root out terrorists, secure our borders, and track down and crush those who would do harm to our families.
I support the "National Strategy for Homeland Security" and its key elements:
Better intelligence, including a return to "humint" or on-the-ground intelligence- gathering and better warning systems
Strengthening domestic counterterrorism to root out terrorists already here
Improvements in border and transportation security, better protection of critical infrastructure
Defending America against catastrophic threats
Dramatically improving emergency preparedness and response
With nearly 1,800 miles of coastline, 14 deep water ports, and dozens of major airports, Florida is vulnerable. The Department of Homeland Security must move resources to protect our borders, ports and coastlines. I will work with all of our elected officials to secure the resources we need to make our families, state and nation safer.
The threat of nuclear attack from rogue nations or terrorist groups remains very real. For this reason, the United States will soon deploy a national missile defense capability. I support funding and further development of missile defense technology, while working with our allies to establish cooperation and defense capability on multiple continents.
