I Knew It Would Be A Lot Of Work…

I knew it would be a lot of work but the campaign trail has also been a lot of fun. After a great Lincoln Day Dinner in Colorado Springs last night, we left bright and early this morning to head up to Leadville for the Lake County Republican Party Assembly. The drive was beautiful. When pulled up to the National Mining Museum, where the assembly was being held, former Senator Ken Chlouber was outside the building putting salt and dirt on ice patches so attendees wouldn't slip on their way in to the meeting. Even though Ken doesn't currently hold office, he definitely represents what it means to be a true public servant.

I was there with Amber O'Connor, my Field Director who is working in the mountain counties for us; George Benson, our Lake County Chair; and Dustin Olson, my Deputy Campaign Manager. We spoke with the delegates as they entered the meeting. They seemed to really appreciate the fact that we were there.

Once the meeting began, Merilee O'Neal, who has been a great county chair for our party, asked me to speak. I spoke about the importance being accessible to the voters in the mountain areas of the 5th Congressional District. As the 5th Congressional District Chair, I visited often and will continue to do so as your Congressman. I talked about my National Security credentials and the importance of ending the reckless spending that is going on in Washington today.

The highlight of the day was when former Senator Ken Chlouber got up to speak. I was truly humbled to have him announce to everyone there that he was going to endorse me for Congress. Ken has been a leader for Colorado and Western values for decades and his support means a lot to me.
