Jeff Crank's Immigration Plan
Below is Jeff Crank's five-point plan to reform immigration policy. Our border security is national security and Jeff Crank is committed to working tirelessly to protect our borders and enforce existing laws to curb illegal immigration. Below is a comprehensive approach to necessary reform.
1.
Commit the resources necessary to enforce existing laws
Congress should commit the resources necessary to enforce existing laws. It is imperative that we increase border patrols with more border agents. The federal government should establish a clearing house to provide employers instant, immediate access to verify an employee's status. We should not punish businesses until we create a verifiable database for employers to double check the status of an employee. Better and newer technology should be utilized for surveillance on the border. Our military has the capability already to do this and I will support efforts to use this technology at our borders.
2.
End the policy known as "catch and release"
When illegal immigrants understand that when they are caught, they will not be released on U.S. soil, they will be deterred from attempting entry to begin with. I will advocate against "catch and release" policies and will always stand strong for efforts to return illegal immigrants to the location they originate. This is a strong deterrent to illegal entry into the U.S.
3.
No Tolerance for "Sanctuary Cities"
When a U.S. city decides to protect law-breakers, they do not deserve your tax dollars. I will sponsor legislation to refuse federal funding to cities that protect illegal immigrants.
4.
Open an Immigration and Customs Enforcement Office in Colorado Springs
I will join Commissioner Jim Bensberg and others in advocating for an ICE office in Colorado Springs. Currently no office exists in our district and I will lead efforts at the national level to provide funding for an office in Colorado Springs. It is fundamental to efforts to enforce immigration policy as the 5th District suffers from the effects of illegal immigration.
5.
Provide Easier Access to Work Permits Without Granting Amnesty
Illegal immigrants should never be rewarded for breaking the law. I will never support granting amnesty to illegal immigrants. Granting easier access to work permits will return billions of dollars in revenue to our tax coffers. Illegal immigrants who still break the law should be returned upon capture to their native country. Temporary work visas must never lead to automatic citizenship. Unless they become legal citizens, they should work for a period of time and then return to their native country.
