WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senate Majority Whip Mitch McConnell released the following statement today praising Nuri al-Maliki, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq:

"I had the chance to meet with Prime Minister Maliki this morning and he's an impressive individual with a strong vision for the future of his country. The Prime Minister has worked hard to form a consensus government that reflects the will of the Iraqi people, and America will stand by him as he works to reduce violence and rebuild his country."
